"Comparison is the thief of joy"

Updated: Jan 17, 2023

Hello everyone! Welcome to my first blog post!

Newly designed classes are finally being posted on the site again, after a bit of a hiatus. The summer brought a rush of outdoor activities, art festivals, and family time. Then, I got caught in the social media trap of being bombarded by the many talented artists and teachers out there. I began to compare myself to some of the best, which really took a toll on my self-esteem. Hence this blog post title (a quote from Theodore Roosevelt). Comparing myself to others did in fact steal my joy, which is sharing my art with others! I realized that not only am I a talented artist and teacher, but I do have wonderful experiences to share with people. I am worthy!

It's with this sentiment in mind that I invite you to explore our Creative Therapy Thursday workshops. My goal is to lead you to art experiences that nurture your creative spirit and spark new connections in the brain. Ultimately, this could be a life changer for many who participate as they take what they learn from the canvas to their everyday lives. This practice requires a "beginners mind" - a mind that is open and curious, and free from prior negative art experiences. Beginners mind does not see the art techniques as "right or wrong", or what is produced as "good or bad". It only appreciates the experience as an opportunity to learn and grow! It is a mind that does not compare with the success of others!

I look forward to seeing you there.

Love,

Tracy
